Sternberg’s Love Theory

The triangular theory of love is a theory of love developed by psychologist Robert Sternberg. In the context of interpersonal relationships, ‘the three components of love, according to the triangular theory, are an intimacy component, a passion component, and a decision/commitment component’.

Intimacy – Which encompasses feelings of attachment, closeness, connectedness, and bondedness.
Passion – Which encompasses drives connected to both limerence and sexual attraction.
Commitment – Which encompasses, in the short term, the decision to remain with another, and in the long term, the shared achievements and plans made with that other.

Bill Gates and Paul Allen reunite and recreate their classic 1981 Microsoft photo

In the black and white photo, baby-faced Gates and bearded Allen, then 26 and 28 respectively, pose with the technology of the time: early personal computers. That was the year the duo launched Microsoft’s operating system, MS-DOS, at the time running on IBM personal computers.

On Tuesday night, at a private event at Allen’s Living Computer Museum in Seattle, Gates and Allen recreated their famous pose, surprising a group of IT veterans assembled to celebrate the achievements of the past forty years of computing. Before smiling for the cameras, the two stood together, apart from the crowd of mingling tech pioneers, catching up quietly in a corner then looking at some of their handiwork from Microsoft’s early days.

Channelling Chihiro (Jiufen) - 九分, a small town in the north-east of Taiwan, served as the base for another exploratory Sunday (yes, it’s a word ;)) - from the fascinating (but crowded) old commercial street (which served as inspiration for the Miyazaki masterpiece Spirited Away) to the bare, but blustery peak of Mount Keelung, my camera (lensbaby attached) certainly got a workout.
